Your first sex toy: start with the questions
You do not need to know the vocabulary before you begin. A short list of practical questions can do most of the work.
Name what you want to learn
Start with your curiosity, not the bestseller list. Are you trying to understand product categories, compare controls, or learn how something is cared for? Pick one question at a time. You are allowed to research without having decided to buy, and your first answer may simply be “I need more information.”
Make a manageable shortlist
For each candidate, note the material, dimensions, controls, care instructions, and total cost. If you cannot find an answer, write “not stated” instead of guessing. Remove options that do not meet your essential requirements. Two clearly described choices are easier to compare than twenty vague ones.
Keep the decision reversible where possible
Check the retailer’s policy before purchase, especially any restrictions once intimate packaging is opened. Read the instructions before use. If the idea involves a partner, talk about it first. A thoughtful first step can also be waiting until the product, budget, and circumstances feel right for you.
